Foundation Review – YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint

I thought I would get back to writing about beauty products I’ve been using recently, starting with foundation because we all love a good base.

The Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat Le Teint is a foundation I’ve had my eye on for a while, but I wanted to use up every last drop of my Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place foundation (still my favourite one ever, FYI). I like foundations which provide a full coverage as I love the flawless look and I hate having to re-touch my make-up during the day, so I want something that lasts a long time.

I had used the YSL foundation in its previous formula a few years ago, and did like it for its medium coverage but found it didn’t last very well on the skin and was a bit patchy on me. YSL reformulated it back in 2016 with the promise that it was longer-lasting, which is definitely true, with a medium to full coverage. It looks quite natural but still hides imperfections and redness. I think if you like a really light coverage, this probably isn’t the foundation for you.

It’s water-based but isn’t too runny, and I find it works well when buffed onto the skin with a foundation sponge, but I think a foundation brush would work really well too. There are lots of shades to choose from which is a big plus, I’m on the very light end of the spectrum and use BD10, which is a perfect match for my skin tone with its yellow undertones. What I really like about this foundation is the radiance that it gives your skin, without being shimmery.

The one downside for me is that it doesn’t last as long as I would like, i.e. as long as the Double Wear foundation lasts. I do find that when I wear it to work I have to re-apply a bit around my chin, nose and forehead to even the coverage out half-way through the day. I do have an oily T-zone so I think if you have oily skin, you won’t appreciate this foundation. The pay-off for the glow and radiance it adds is that it emphasises oiliness, which I guess is logical. I use a bit of setting powder which helps, but not enough that it lasts all day on me. I would repurchase this, but I would use it for days when I don’t need it to last as long, basically days when I’m not working in an office – air conditioning and London pollution are not conducive to long-lasting, flawless makeup!

In summary, if you like a full-ish coverage but a foundation that doesn’t feel too heavy on the skin, you’ll like this. If you don’t have oily skin and you want a bit of radiance, this is a good option for you. It is quite expensive at around £33, and there are probably highstreet brands that do a good job at a fraction of the price, but personally I find the higher-end foundations look much better on my skin.
